I have been using my
Kindle for about 6 weeks and I must say that it took me only a few hours to
totally fall in love with it. I curl up in my lounge chair with some hot tea
next to me and get lost in a world of reading. The size is very appropriate for
reading and I can read with only one hand since I use a thumb to press the next
page button. This leaves my other hand free to sip my tea or pet the dog~~~

David H :
Over half of the latest reviews being entered are by non owners gracing us with
their esthetic opinions, pimping their Sony readers, or on rants about something
they misunderstood, didn't bother to research, or some peripheral issue they're
crusading against like DRM
I thought these worse than useless non reviews were pretty much an initial
launch problem, but apparently there is a second wave of people deliberately
screwing up the Kindle reviews.
I rely on the owner reviews on Amazon, and I initially decided not to buy a
Kindle because of negative reviews here. Fortunately, I came back and read the
reviews and found out that a substantial majority of the negative reviews are by
non owners. There are also some negative reviews by owners, and these are quite
helpful, but they're buried by all of the fake reviews.
I bought a Kindle. I love it. It has warts, but it meets my needs and has
actually exceeded my initial expectations. It sucks that I almost didn't buy it
because of the ignorance and / or malice of the review spammers, and it sucks
that the reviews are still getting bombarded by these people.
Please read the reviews carefully the reviews by actual Kindle owners,
good and bad, provide enough information to decide if the current Kindle is
right for you.
Amazon Kindle vs. Sony Reader Q&A With Bezos About the Kindle
Sizemodo and Interface Comparison
The Kindle arrived in a robust box—sprinkled with letters from
a variety of alphabets—meant to visually invoke a book. The Kindle itself was
visible in one half of the opened box, covered with a clear protective sheet
containing simple instructions for getting the device up and running. A handsome
leather cover also resided on that side of the box, while the other side hid the
two cables that power a Kindle and connect it, via USB, to a computer. It's
clear that Amazon has bought into the idea that careful packaging can be read as
an indication of the care and thought put into the product in general. Q: Who do
you see buying this device?
Bezos: Heavy readers. Anyone who keeps three or four books open at the same
time. It is heavy to carry all of those books around. People who are really
busy. The traveler is another constituency. it id designed to be usable by
someone who does not even want the complexity of using a computer. It is closer
to being an appliance.
Q: Would you take this to the beach?
Bezos: Yes. I would treat it like Blackberry. I wouldn’t bury it in the sand.
But it is much better than trying to read a newspaper on the beach with the
pages blowing everywhere.
Q: Do you really think anyone is going to pay to get newspapers or blogs on this
device when they can get the same thing for free on the Web?
Bezos: The convenience of having your newspapers pushed to you full
text—newspapers and blogs—is fantastic. People will understand the subscription
charge is essential to cover the wireless delivery. 99 cents a month for a blog,
a third of the cost of a latte? To get the wireless convenience of having that
blog resident on your device and updated at all times? [Ed.’s note: Some blogs,
like TechCrunch, are $1.99 a month. We remain skeptical that anyone will pay for
these, but hope to be surprised].
Q: Would you consider opening up this service to other devices so that I can get
my Amazon e-books on my Tablet PC or my iPhone?
Bezos: In principle, I think that is a very good idea.

One of the most-looked-for announcements for this Christmas is
not related to Shrek, Harry Potter, or Spiderman, but is the Amazon “Kindle”
